Michelin

Michelin’s identity is closely associated with Bibendum, the company’s tire-built mascot, alongside a blue wordmark. The official heritage account dates the character’s creation to 1898.

Bibendum: a mascot built from the product

Michelin’s heritage archive dates Bibendum’s creation to 1898. The character made the tire itself part of the brand’s identity, giving Michelin a distinctive visual ambassador. The modern wordmark shown here is a separate artwork from that historic mascot.

A recognizable name and character

Michelin’s logo history is broader than a sequence of wordmarks: Bibendum has been redrawn and adapted while remaining an enduring brand symbol. We do not use a generic tire or vehicle photo as a substitute for logo artwork. Compare Michelin’s industrial identity with Peugeot and Porsche.
