The story behind the changes

How the identity evolved

A name taken from Pegasus

ASUS explains that its name comes from the final four letters of Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology. The company’s graphic identity uses those letters rather than an illustrated horse, turning the short name into a distinctive technical signature.

The early Computer lockup

The archived 1989 artwork pairs ASUS with the word Computer and a sweeping underline. It identifies the business directly, while the slanted letterforms and broad curve make a more elaborate composition than the later corporate name alone.

A continuous line connects the letters

The later wordmark reduces the supporting elements and lets a horizontal cut run through the upper part of the name. That repeated alignment makes four letters read as a single constructed form. The current reference shown here omits a campaign slogan so the company’s core lettering can be compared directly with the earlier mark.

Compare this identity with Dell and Samsung.
