Ferrari

Explore Ferrari’s distinctive extended-F wordmark and understand how it differs from the Prancing Horse racing and road-car badges.

The story behind the changes

How the identity evolved

The extended F becomes a signature

The Ferrari wordmark stretches the top of its capital F across the remaining letters. That long horizontal stroke ties the name together and gives a short surname an immediately distinctive silhouette. The serif forms add weight and contrast beneath it.

The name and the horse are separate elements

Ferrari’s official history records the Prancing Horse emblem’s debut on Scuderia Ferrari cars in 1932. The wordmark reproduced on this page is not that original racing emblem. Distinguishing the lettering from the horse, shield, and rectangular badge avoids assigning one logo’s history to a different graphic.

A lettering reference for comparison

The black artwork shown here makes the proportions easier to examine without an automobile, flag, or colored shield around it. This entry documents the wordmark as a component of Ferrari’s identity. It does not claim that the exact drawing has been unchanged since the first racing badge, or assign an unsupported introduction year.

Compare this identity with Ford and Toyota.
