ASICS

Compare the original ASICS lettering with the later slanted wordmark and swirling symbol used across running and sports products.

The story behind the changes

How the identity evolved

A name with a specific meaning

ASICS takes its name from the initials of the Latin phrase Anima Sana In Corpore Sano, expressing the idea of a sound mind in a sound body. The company’s official history records the formation of ASICS in 1977 and the introduction of its promotional logo. That context matters: the earlier Onitsuka Tiger identity belongs to the predecessor story, not to the same wordmark.

From upright letters to a faster silhouette

The earlier artwork shown here combines a swirling device with upright, closely fitted letters. The later logo tilts the name and gives it a more continuous forward movement. This comparison focuses on visible differences in the drawings rather than claiming that a change in lettering alone explains the company’s strategy.

Logo versus shoe stripes

The ASICS corporate symbol is separate from the intersecting stripe pattern seen on footwear. Both contribute to recognition, but they should be identified separately when comparing products with corporate branding.

Compare this identity with PUMA and Adidas.
